Tally alternative
A Tally alternative built for construction
Tally is bookkeeping. Rebaar is construction operations plus bookkeeping. If your firm has outgrown "Tally + Excel + WhatsApp", this is what comes next.
14-day free trial · 3-week typical migration · Tally export preserved
Tally is the right tool for general bookkeeping — and the wrong tool for managing construction projects. There's no BOQ in Tally, no RA bill format, no milestone billing, no site photos, no RFI tracking. Most Indian builders maintain projects in Excel and the ledger in Tally, and re-key between them every week. Rebaar is built so the project workflow and the books are one record.
Why teams switch from Tally
Excel projects + Tally books = double entry forever
Every RA bill gets created in Excel for the client, then re-entered as a Sales Voucher in Tally for GST. Every vendor bill gets approved in WhatsApp, paper-filed, then booked in Tally. Two systems, one truth — except they drift apart.
No project P&L until year-end
Tally's cost-centre feature gives you project P&L if you tag every voucher correctly. In practice, vouchers get tagged 60% of the time. You discover unprofitable projects at year-end audit, six months too late to fix.
No site workflow at all
Daily progress reports, RFIs, NCRs, punch lists, safety incidents, material indents — none of these exist in Tally. They live in WhatsApp groups, paper notebooks, and the project manager's memory.
GST e-Invoice + e-Way Bill needs add-ons
TallyPrime has the GST add-on but e-Way Bill is still a separate workflow. Rebaar bakes both into the invoice flow with bring-your-own GSP credentials.
What to look for in a Tally alternative
- ✓Project management (phases, milestones, BOQ) in the same system as the books
- ✓RA bills with retention, advance recovery, change orders — not Excel templates
- ✓Vendor PO → GRN → bill 3-way match
- ✓Site daily progress with photos, RFIs, NCRs, punch lists
- ✓Statutory payroll for site workers (EPF/ESI/PT/TDS)
- ✓GST e-Invoice IRN + e-Way Bill native
- ✓Export to Tally so your CA's workflow continues
- ✓Multi-user with role-based access
Migration playbook
Three weeks, end to end. Add a week per 25 users for permissions setup and training.
Step 1
Week 1 — Cutover date + opening balances
Pick a cutover date (start of a financial quarter is cleanest). Export from Tally: customer list, vendor list, item master, opening balances (receivables, payables, GST liability, retention held). Import to Rebaar.
Step 2
Week 2 — Project + BOQ setup
Create projects in Rebaar for each active site. Build BOQs from your existing Excel sheets. Set up rate libraries. Link milestones to billing schedule.
Step 3
Week 3+ — Parallel run + handover
New invoices and bills in Rebaar. Export day-book to Tally XML weekly so your CA's Tally stays current. After 2-3 months, most CAs prefer working directly in Rebaar (the GST reports are cleaner) and Tally becomes archive-only.
Why teams pick Rebaar specifically
✓Project + BOQ + RA bill + ledger in one record (no Excel-to-Tally re-keying)
✓Real-time project P&L (not year-end discovery)
✓Site daily progress, RFIs, NCRs, punch lists
✓GST e-Invoice + e-Way Bill native
✓Statutory payroll bundled
✓Multi-user role-based access
✓Tally XML export so your CA isn't disrupted
Pricing in plain terms: Rebaar from ₹5,500/workspace/month covers everything. Tally costs ₹18-54k perpetual licence + ₹6-18k annual TSS + Tally on Cloud extra. For most construction firms, Rebaar replaces Tally + Excel + WhatsApp at lower total cost.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to give up Tally completely?
No. Many customers run Rebaar for projects + operations + GST, and continue exporting to Tally for the CA's comfort. Rebaar produces Tally XML. After 6-12 months, most customers move the ledger fully into Rebaar because the double entry stops being worth it.
Will my CA accept Rebaar's GST reports?
Yes. GSTR-1 / 3B exports are in the format the government portal accepts (same as Tally). HSN summary, B2B/B2C split, place-of-supply IGST vs CGST+SGST. Your CA uploads to GSTN exactly as they do today.
What about Tally's inventory module?
Rebaar's inventory is project-aware (which Tally's isn't). Material indents, GRNs, transfers between projects, consumption against BOQ lines. It's a different mental model — built around how construction inventory actually flows, not stock-group accounting.
Can Rebaar handle Tally's vouchers?
Yes, mapped one-to-one. Sales voucher = invoice. Purchase voucher = vendor bill. Receipt voucher = payment receipt. Payment voucher = payment disbursement. Journal voucher = manual ledger entry. The Tally export preserves the voucher type.
What about TDS, TCS, GST reconciliation?
TDS 194C/J/I/Q tracking with quarterly summary by PAN. GST input/output reconciliation per period. Audit trail on every change. Your CA gets the same reports they'd build manually from Tally, automatically.
Is my data safe? Tally is local — Rebaar is cloud.
Local Tally is exactly as safe as your office is. Laptop stolen = entire books gone. Rebaar is cloud-hosted with daily off-site backups, AES-256 encrypted secrets, audit logs, workspace isolation enforced at the query layer. For most firms, cloud is safer than a desk PC.
What if my CA refuses to use anything but Tally?
They don't have to. Export to Tally XML weekly; they continue working in Tally for vouchers, GST returns, P&L. You use Rebaar for operations. Most CAs warm up to Rebaar after a quarter of seeing cleaner reports.
How do I try Rebaar without disrupting Tally?
Sign up for a 14-day trial. Set up one project, run a few RA bills, see the report quality. Your existing Tally setup is untouched. Decision time after trial — most firms run parallel for a quarter before committing.
