What is a BOQ in Indian construction?
A Bill of Quantities (BOQ) is a section-by-section breakdown of work items, quantities, unit rates, and GST applicable to a construction contract. It's typically prepared by the architect/quantity surveyor and forms the basis of the client contract, milestone billing, and project P&L.
How is BOQ different from BOM?
BOQ (Bill of Quantities) is what you sell — work items with rates payable by the client. BOM (Bill of Materials) is what you buy — raw materials, fasteners, consumables, with wastage allowances. Rebaar maps BOQ items to BOM recipes so procurement and billing stay aligned.
Can I import a BOQ from Excel?
Yes. CSV import accepts the standard BOQ columns (section, item description, unit, quantity, rate, HSN). The import builds the structured BOQ in Rebaar; you can edit, lock, and progress-bill from there.
What happens to the BOQ when a change order is raised?
The original signed BOQ stays locked. The change order is a separate, audited artefact — once approved, it adds (or subtracts) lines that flow into subsequent RA bills. The final contract total = original BOQ ± all approved change orders.
Does Rebaar handle item rate analysis (the labour + material breakdown)?
Yes. Each rate library entry can carry its labour-rate, material-rate, plant-rate, and overhead components. Useful for tendering and for understanding margin pressure when a vendor quote shifts.
Can multiple estimators work on a BOQ?
Yes. Role-based access: Estimators edit drafts, PM approves, Owner signs. Multi-user editing with last-write-wins on individual lines (locked version is conflict-free since edits go through change orders).
Is the rate library shared across the company?
It can be. One central library is the default — every BOQ inherits. You can clone a region-specific library (e.g. Bangalore vs Hyderabad rates) and assign to specific projects. Changes flow forward, not retroactively into signed BOQs.
How does the BOQ connect to the RA bill?
When you raise an RA bill, you mark which BOQ lines have progressed and by what percentage. The bill shows cumulative work done, this-bill amount, retention, advance recovery. The BOQ's billed-percentage updates automatically — so the next RA bill knows what's left.
